Status comes from GitHub activity and editorial verdicts: Active pushed within the last 3 days, Stale has been quiet longer (established repos stay stale rather than auto-archive), Stable is mature and feature-complete — granted automatically for a peer-reviewed companion paper (journal or conference, any star count) or a repo over 1000 stars with a preprint, plus manual verdicts, and never revoked automatically, Archived is idle past its tier's patience — 180 days under 30 stars, 3 years at or above — and a fresh push restores it automatically, Gone means the code vanished from GitHub (deleted or archived by its owner) and returns automatically if the repository comes back, and No repo means there is nothing to track. Early-stage projects under 30 stars live in the Nursery — a watchlist behind the toggle on the browse page. They graduate into the main directory by crossing the star threshold or by being marked Stable. A nursery project idle for over 180 days is auto-archived at refresh, and its record then moves to the Graveyard page.
